The loss of a mentor

This is a sad Storyworth prompt, but such an important part of my guy's story. I can still remember meeting with Aidan's advisor at the end of his freshman year. He had a rocky start to high school, and we were brainstorming ways to keep him motivated in those non-preferred courses. She suggested we find … Continue reading The loss of a mentor →

Favorite subjects in high school

This was a fun Storyworth prompt that made me realize what a secret nerd I was in high school. My favorite subjects were Latin and Biology. Let's start with Latin. My class was the first to take Latin all 4 years of high school (vs just the required 2 years for college applications). One of … Continue reading Favorite subjects in high school →

What advice would you give your 20 year old self?

Whew, Storyworth. I just figured out Mother's Day, and now I need to give my 20-year-old self advice. Well, let's buckle up and do just that! Do NOT pick a guy over friends.Always put your needs before the needs of anyone else.Do NOT stay with a guy if he does not treat you the way … Continue reading What advice would you give your 20 year old self? →

How a dog changed Mother’s Day for me

Once again I created my own Storyworth prompt. This week in honor of Mother's Day. A holiday that I have dreaded ever since my mom died unexpectedly the Wednesday after Mother's Day in 2015. I wrote about the build up and how I have dealt with this anniversary in a post last year. This year … Continue reading How a dog changed Mother’s Day for me →

Most embarrassing doctor visit

I am creating my own Storyworth prompt this week... I clearly need help following rules. Sigh. I have lived in some version of our home since 1996, and those who know me, know I love to garden. So imagine my surprise when I found poison ivy growing in my FLOWER BEDS. Literally like I had … Continue reading Most embarrassing doctor visit →

Secrets to a happy relationship

This week's Storyworth prompt: Secrets to a happy relationship. I feel like I answered a lot of this with my Marry Someone Who... prompt. But in light of the Will Smith Oscars event, I thought about times my husband has supported me in a way that respects me as an individual. There were so many … Continue reading Secrets to a happy relationship →

Favorite middle school teacher

Wow, this week’s Storyworth prompt brought back a lot of GOOD memories from middle school, and that my friends is a BIG deal. Like most people, I do not have a lot of fond memories from the middle school years. But Miss Harvin, she was most definitely one of them!I went to a new middle … Continue reading Favorite middle school teacher →

Emotional Support Cat Banjo

UPDATE: Banjo showed up last night with Fireball on the front porch. Gone for 4 days! He ate almost an entire can of salmon and is happily purring in his special spot on my girl's bed. I guess his job is not done yet.-----------------I made my own Storyworth prompt this week to honor sweet Banjo. … Continue reading Emotional Support Cat Banjo →

Books that have made a difference

This week's Storyworth prompt was books that have made a difference to you as an adult. Books have been super helpful in different ways throughout my adulthood. Just Mercy inspired me to become a Guardian ad Litem. A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog Named Trixie inspired me to write and publish a book about my … Continue reading Books that have made a difference →

Musicians most liked seeing live

Oh Storyworth, this writing prompt brought back some amazing memories! I have 2 live shows to share. The first is the last concert I attended before COVID. Of course, I had no idea it was going to be my last concert, but man it was a great one. My friend Rob and I love Kacey … Continue reading Musicians most liked seeing live →

A sweet surprise on this terrible day for women. Fighting hard to be positive in our super crappy world.
I am married to the best dad/husband. He did college tour #2 solo with our girl but made sure to send me updates and pics so that I was still a part of the experience. Our girl really liked Davidson College, despite it being one of the smaller schools she is interested in. I will be forever grateful for ALL the options she has to pick from. She will land where she is meant to land and do amazing things to make our world a better place ❤️
Taking a MUCH needed work break to indulge in my Wednesday guilty pleasure.
This picture just popped up in my Google Nest. Baby Aidan with his tiny arms and big brown eyes that trusted me the first time I held him in India. He only weighed 12lbs at 6mos old and lived on a diet of rice and water at the orphanage. I swear I did not see those skinny arms and legs. Only those big brown trusting eyes ❤️
A large part of Foster Support is getting wellness meds to pups and kittens. My sidekicks LOVE going on “errands” even though they barely fit in the back seat 😂🤣😂
Dear mom, you were gone way too much last week. Appa Bear and I want to go back to the good ol’ days of 2020-2021 when we spent all of our time together.
